Holding a prestigious Meisterschülerin title from ABK Stuttgart, Eleni Sismanidou (*1997, Germany) creates bold, thought-provoking objects that playfully challenge tradition. Her striking piece, “Sacred squeeze club”, is a tactile silicone cast of a Madonna icon. By transforming a rigid, sacred historical symbol into a squishy, highly modern material, the artwork brilliantly blurs the lines between religious devotion, modern fetish, and contemporary femininity. It is a wonderfully subversive and conversational work from an artist whose practice was recently showcased at Better Go South gallery, alongside a notable performance during the ARD Christmette.
