Katrine Buksted Munk (*1998, Germany) studied Painting at HAW Hamburg. “Bekannter” turns on a word that sits in an awkward middle: in German a Bekannter is an acquaintance — someone you know, but not someone you’re close to — built from the very word for “known.” That’s the intimate duality the work explores: the strange proximity of a person who is familiar and distant at once, known and not known in the same breath. The title holds both halves without resolving them, which is exactly the discomfort of the category.
